Valentines Day Alpine Style

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, we take a look at how you can spoil that special someone this year.

It’s just around the corner, and do you lack inspiration? Fear not! We’ve asked around some of our lovely team of staff to see what they would recommend doing this February.

Firstly, let’s remember that you’re already lucky enough to be hitting the slopes for a holiday. Maybe it was your good planning, meaning you’re owed something special! Or maybe your other half planned the holiday, meaning you need to step up and sort out something special while you’re here! So whether you’re dropping hints or looking to plan something, we can help!

 Let's cover the classics…

Get rid of the Kids!

If you’re travelling with family, you might fancy the night off, which is fair enough! Try companies like Little Chicks in La Plagne, who can offer private nannying in your chalet. Contact laura@littlechickschildcare.com for more info.

Massage Me Valentines Day

The Body

Get a massage or spa treatment. The Massage Me team are the people who have a team of professional physios for your ski-hard injuries and also a professional holistic team for your luxurious, indulgent massages. But book early because these Feb weeks are the busiest of the season!

Lunch or Dinner?

Unlike back home, you are free for the day, so you needn’t be tied to just dinner. So how about a beautiful lunch on the mountain? There is little better than dining out in the sun, having skied all morning and watching the world go by in the Alps. Check out mountain-side restaurants for excellent mountain food and service with a view!

If dinner is more your fancy, you’ll be staying more grounded. If you fancy staying in but eating like you are going out, you can also use a company like Huski, who basically will do all the hard work for you and deliver an amazing meal to your doorstep.

You can always get flowers and chocolates delivered as well. Interflora always follows through. But when you’re leaving in a week, it often seems wasteful to buy flowers halfway into a holiday and then leave them behind (although the chalet staff do love them when you leave!).

The mountain memories

For something a little more mountain themed you can always find great localised presents in the shopping centres. There are so many little bakeries, charcuterie, wine, cheese specialists in each village that you will be spoilt for choice. Online shops like My Mountain Boutique also have some really different items to personalise for your holiday or resort of choice.

Out of the ordinary

Each resort has its own special events for Valentines weeks. But you’ll find things like :

Dinner in an Igloo? Then, if you really fancy pushing the boat out, you can stay the night in one of their igloos. There are even some with glass roofs so you can watch the stars as you settle down to sleep.

Sunset La Plagne

Splitboarding and ski trekking - becoming more and more popular, it’s a great way to explore the resort before the lifts open. Imagine heading out early morning, with freshly piested slopes, enjoying the quiet, watching the sunrise, and taking a sunrise ski back into the resort. A great way to earn that French breakfast!

Bobsleigh– If you’re on holiday in La Plagne for the speed daemons. From Mono-bob and heading down the ice on your own or Taxi-bob with a pro-driver.

Skidooing - around 95€ for 2 for an hour of blasting around the pistes in the dark

Parapenting – if you want to get up high, from 80€ + depending on the length of flight

SuperLuge / nighttime sledging - organised by a lot of ski schools in the area. An entertaining way to spend an evening! Kids are usually allowed as well.

Ziplines - Flying into more and more resorts. Imagine whooshing across the valley, like James Bond, with your skis strapped to your back. 007 indeed.

The best things in life are free.

You don’t have to be spending loads of money for someone to know you care. Quite often, the gestures that cost nothing can make the most impact.

Massage Me Snow Heart

Snow writing – write to your loved one with a message in the snow outside their hotel, so they see it the following morning—bonus cool points for effort with this one.

Snow picnics – if you’ve got the weather for it, head backcountry and have a secluded picnic. France has some of the best and simplest food in the world. You can easily pick up excellent foie-gras, charcuterie, cheese, champagne and more at the local Spar or boutique and make your own fun.

Walks – there are loads of mountain trails you can follow which are really beautiful. So snow-shoe up and head out. Great for the non-skiers.

Après-Ski Bars– Most bars will be doing something special for Valentine's. With options ranging from champagne and oysters to fancy-dress nights and shots a-plenty, make sure you know what you’re heading to avoid upset.

Our best suggestion would be to talk to your chalet hosts, as they will be more than happy to point you in the right direction, especially if you are looking for something really unique to your chalet or resort. You can always contact your chalet team in advance of your holiday if you are looking to make a big gesture!
